Wikia Gaming IRC channel Edit

Hullo! I am Kirkburn, your friendly local Wikia Gaming Helper!

You may be interested to know there is a Wikia gaming IRC channel, #wikia-gaming on chat.freenode.net, where you can hop on, ask for help from users of other gaming wikis, or offer your own experiences. If you are not familiar with IRC clients, you can access it from http://irc.wikia.com/gaming.

Different people may be on sporadically, but we organize weekly chats at a fixed time so we can get the most number of people online at the same time to ask and answer questions, or just to hang out. The admins of some of Wikia's biggest gaming wikis (e.g. WoW, Halo) often attend them. You can find the time for the next chat by following this link.

Main page layout update Edit

Hopefully you have read about the skin and ad changes at Wikia's New Style on Central Wikia. If not, I hope you'll have a look.

One of the changes is a block of two ads on each main page. It's possible that they won't always show up, but to ensure your main page continues to work properly when they do, you need to update your main page column formatting code with new column tags.

I have drafted a main page using the new tags on User:Kirkburn/Dev which I hope you can take a look at - feel free to make a copy and edit it. As part of creating it, I have also gone through the code to clean it up and make it more readable. Though the layout may seem restrictive at first, there really is a fair amount you can do with them - for example see these customized main pages - Muppet Wiki, WoWWiki, FFXIclopedia. You may want to chat with your wiki community about what direction to take with a new main page.

If you encounter any problems with the new tags, please let us know.

ILHI   13:46, 1 September 2008 (UTC) I never was going to do it. :D I am currently using a 600x800 screensize, minus the normal side ads. And even without the ads, the navigation box overlaps the box with the logo. I can supply a screenshot if needs be.

ILHI   13:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC) I have moved the logo to the next line, which has stopped the overlapping, at least without the side ads. I'm going to see if I can get some code to make the page look nicer.

Xylaquin, unfortunately it is what advertisers buy - the previous situation of just banner ads did not give a good enough return to be sustainable. By having two ads on the main page, it allows us to reduce the number of ads elsewhere. Kirkburn (talk) 14:49, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

With the unfortunate leaving of ILHI, will there be anyone taking over (or is a new person necessary)? And as I can't find a number; just out of curiosity, how many Mods are there here?

New featured article? Edit

The Monkey has been the featured article for a long time now - anybody think it needs replacing? Although monkeys are important to the series, I don't think its article is the best this wiki has. I would suggest my article: Oblask Dam, but I am obviously biassed towards it. Any suggestions? We could have regular monthly changes to it for the best effect.

SMARTEST BOT (TS3)Edit

I have tried a lot and messed araund with the bots, and in my opinion, gretel is the best one.

Thats the most obvious in Siberia with anything that fires rapidly.

Does anyone know anything on this subject???
